Questions about a very old argus film camera? Please help!! (pics)?
Okay. I have a very very old 50mm argus film camera and I want to know if A.) I can take pictures with it, B.) What type of film would I use to take pictures with it. I don't mind if the pictures are even bad quality, I would just really love to be able to use it. These are the details I can give you.
Around the lens it says "50mm ARGUS COATED CINTAR"
in the back, where I open it up to put the film in, it has a number... the number is
407223
in the back where film goes there is a brown piece of paper that reads "argus" "ann arbor michigan" "U.S. PAT 2,298,101" "U.S. PAT 2,298,787"
and beneath that in VERY small lettering it says "Part no 14(7?)(7?)6"
(I can't read the 3rd and 4th number because it is SO small, the 7's could be 3's...)

It is an Argus C3, a very popular camera before SLRs came out. It shoots regular 35mm film. It is all mechanical, no auto focus, no auto exposure, etc. It could still work, but they are very tricky to learn to use. The lever on the front cocks the mechanical shutter, it has to be pressed down before each picture. The film does not advance on its own, so if you forget to wind it, you get a double exposure (hint thats 2 ruined pictures). If you forget to set the winding dial when you load film you have no idea how many exposures are left. You need a light meter to get decent exposures. no flash, if you find the original flash unit, it requires batteries and bulbs that are no longer available. It does have a PC connection, so you can use an external flash, x - sync. Since the viewfinder is not through the lens, it is off-set slightly especially on close up shots. The focus is done with the split frame viewer, line up the 2 images and it should be in focus.
try and locate an instruction manual on-line, that will help a lot. This is a 50 year old camera.
