How do you set a good exposure on a camera?
Ive been told my exposure seems off, when my picture looks really good. So how would I go about making it better?
The best way to set the exposure is with an external light meter.
Your camera reads the light being reflected from the scene, while a light meter reads the light falling (incident) on the scene. If the scene is bright or dark colors, the exposure will be off.
If you use a light meter, make sure to meter on the most important subject of the scene, i.e. if a model is standing in the shade, and you meter in sunlight, exposure will be bad. Place the meter as clause as possible to the subject.
You can still over or underexpose, if you have too much shade and sun in the same photo. The main subject will be correctly exposed.
Look on ebay for a light meter, the basic ones are cheap.
