What kind of 35mm camera should I get?

I have an intro to photography class that I am going to be taking. I have some information from the course catalog.

There are a few questions I ask.

First: Do you plan on getting a DSLR down the road? That's a big question, because not all lenses will work with the current DSLRs. The Nikon line will fit, they may not have all of the features (some may or may not auto-focus). Same with the Pentax Line, which will fit (without auto features in some cases) all except for the screw-mount type. If not, or you don't mind buying new glass, it's pretty much up to you what you buy.

Second: What's your budget? You'll be buying paper and film at least, as well as the lab fees for the lab (but that'll be factored into your tuition - at least it should be). Since it's an intro class, you'll be buying black and white film and paper. Not as bad as it could be. As said before, the Nikon N90 was a pretty solid camera. Sold a bunch of them when I worked in selling cameras. Also, look for a Pentax K-1000. The camera's built like a tank, VERY durable, and while bare-bones is likely a good idea. It has been the student model of camera of choice for years now. If you don't mind buying new glass for your cameras, the venerable Canon A1 and AE-1 are also good, solid cameras as well.

If you get the change, maybe get some nice fast prime glass for it, like say a 50mm f:/1.8. While it's not a zoom, you'll be far less limited when it comes to weather conditions that you can shoot in. I had a kit zoom 35-80 f:/4-5.6 when I first started all these years ago, and I would have LOVED to have had the wiggle room that those extra stops would have given me.
