If I were to present this case to an animal cop, could the dog be taken out of its home?
There's this dog that lives down the street from me. It's some pit bull mix meaning it's big and filled with energy. The owners, two adults, have 3 children. I'm guessing they got the dog for them. This poor dog, Brownie, is tied up to their porch to use the bathroom. They don't take him out for walks. He is an agressive dog, he barks at ANYTHING that goes by him. When he starts barking the four year old girl goes outside and tries to hold him back.
Is this neglet? The owners take no care of the dog. A dog needs to be walked. A dog with anger problems needs to be taken care of.
If the dog is confined, fed, and minimally cared for, I am sorry but little will be done. At the most they will get cited for not having a proper shelter while the dog is outside. If they do not comply its the only reason they would take the dog. A barking, protective dog is not a reason to take it. Neglect is not lack of affection. Its lack of care. A dog that is on a chain that is at least 3 feet in length and someone is outside to clean the poop and even moves it a few feet could be considered exercise. Its different for each state, but seriously not much would be done unless there is no shelter, and they are NOT cleaning the feces.
