What voltage will reduce AA alkaline battery performance? They start @ 1.56V new & don't seem to work @ 1.27V?
In a wireless mouse, the device doesn't seem to work (clicks don't register) when the voltage drops to 1.26V. Is the battery dead?
The performance of a batter begins to be reduced as soon as the battery is put into use. However, the performance reduction is so small at that time that it not noticeable. How far down the battery voltage can go before it is useless depends entirely upon the circuit in which it is used. Some battery powered home thermostats will work until the battery voltage falls to about one volt, Some other circuits might now work when the battery voltage falls to about 1.3V.
By the way, how far the battery voltage can decline and still power the circuit has nothing to do with the battery size (although larger batteries will last longer under a fixed current load), but depends upon the design and components of the circuit.
